Quatre ans après notre première visite du Mexique, nous avons décidé spontanément d’y retourner suite à notre séjour à New York et à l’hiver assez froid que nous avons eu là-bas.
Four years after our first visit to Mexico, we spontaneously decided to go back after our stay in New York and the cold winter we had there.
J’étais pour tout vous dire un peu émue car, si on m’avait dit lors de ma première visite que j’aurais la chance d’y retourner je n’y aurait pas cru. A l’époque, j’étais salariée à plein temps et les voyages au bout du monde se faisait beaucoup plus rares bien entendu. Je n’aurais donc jamais osé rêver pouvoir voyager aussi souvent, aussi loin et même avoir l’opportunité de revenir plusieurs fois dans les endroits que j’aimais.
I was a bit emotional because, if I had been told on my first visit that I would have the chance to return, I would not have believed. At this time, I was a full-time employee and trips to the end of the world were much rarer, of course. I would never have dreamed of traveling so often, so far and even having the opportunity to return several times to the places I loved.
Par contre, lors de notre première visite nous avions choisi de séjourner à Cancun, ville que je n’avais pas vraiment appréciée car beaucoup plus pour les fêtards mais je vous conseille tout de même de passer par là-bas ne serait-ce que pour l’incroyable musée sous-marin et aussi Isla Mujeres, une île paradisiaque bordée par les Caraïbes.
However, during our first visit we chose to stay in Cancun, a city that I did not really appreciate because much more for the partygoers but I advise you to go through there even if only for the incredible underwater museum and also Isla Mujeres, an island paradise bordered by the Caribbean.
Nous avons donc décidé d’aller à Tulum cette fois, une petite ville en bord de mer à l’esprit bohème-chic et totalement dépaysante et surtout très connue pour tous ses spots Instagram 🙂 Et nous avons séjourné à l’hôtel Nomade dont j’ai beaucoup aimé le restaurant sur la plage.
So we decided to go to Tulum this time, a small town by the sea with a bohemian-chic spirit and totally exotic and especially well known for all its Instagram spots 🙂 And we stayed at the Nomad Hotel which I loved the restaurant on the beach.
La beauté de la région du Yucatan, c’est aussi les cenotes, des genres de piscines/gouffres naturelles qui existent par dizaines et qui sont absolument magiques ! Nous sommes allées la première fois à Samula et cette fois-ci à Gran Cenote, à 10 minutes en voiture de Tulum et où nous avons passé des heures à nager dans le calme avec les petites tortues (vidéo ici ^^). Je vous conseille absolument d’en visiter plusieurs, car ils sont bien différents les uns des autres et ont chacun leur histoire.
The beauty of the Yucatan region is also the cenotes, types of natural pools / chasms that exist by the dozens and are absolutely magical! We first went to Samula and this time to Gran Cenote, a 10 minute drive from Tulum and where we spent hours swimming quietly with the little turtles (video here ^^). I advise you to visit several, because they are very different from each other and each have their story.
Nous avons aussi pris la route pour une journée afin de visiter l’incroyable Chichen Itza, cette pyramide maya qui figure parmi les merveilles du monde et je peux comprendre pourquoi. Mon conseil est d’y aller tôt le matin car le soleil tape énormément et de prendre un guide sur place dans la langue de votre choix, car l’histoire et les merveilles cachées y sont beaucoup trop incroyables pour passer à côté !
We also took the road for a day to visit the incredible Chichen Itza, this Maya pyramid that is among the wonders of the world and I can understand why. My advice is to go early in the morning because the sun beats a lot and take a guide on site in the language of your choice, because the history and the hidden wonders are far too incredible to miss!
Suite à cette visite, nous nous sommes ensuite rendus au Rio Lagartos, un lac d’une couleur rose éclatante qui est aussi une réserve naturelle de flamants roses. A noter qu’il n’y a pas vraiment d’autres sites à visiter dans le coin, alors beaucoup disent que cela ne vaut pas le détour mais j’avoue avoir été complètement bluffée par la couleur de l’eau et je ne regrette pas la route (d’autant plus que c’est Youssef qui conduisait haha) !
Following this visit, we then went to the Rio Lagartos, a lake of a bright pink color that is also a nature reserve of flamingos. Note that there are not really other sites to visit in the area, so many say it’s not worth the detour but I admit to being completely amazed by the color of the water and I do not regret not the road (especially since it is Youssef who drove haha)!
